"It all started when i came out of the army - I've been a certified lifeguard since i was 18 and it was one of those things i fell into. Soon, i realised that i'd developed a passion for it as there are few jobs, other than being a firefighter or in the medical profession, where you can say that you save lives. Of course, it gets tough sometimes, like when we have to deal with difficult people who don't understand or refuse to adhere to the pool rules, and it gets even harder when fatalities happen. Once i rushed to help a colleague with someone who was drowning but we still couldn't prevent the inevitable from happening.
